Colin Hill, a young Ojibwa from the remote First Nations community of Rabbit Lake, in Northern Canada, has successfully buried his painful past, and become immersed in his new role working alongside tourist camp operator, and former NBA star, Tom Peters. But when Colin finds his young foster brother, Joshua, badly beaten, he realizes that though the nightmare is over for him now that he is older, the perpetrators are still out there, hurting other young children. Afraid that telling the authorities will only exacerbate the situation as it has in the past, and respecting Joshua's wishes, Colin cares for him, without telling anyone about his injuries.

Then Tom Peters' special needs son, Bobby, goes missing. Colin joins the search party, but a confusing kaleidoscope of memories first hinder and then help Colin to locate the young boy. Local police chief, Sammy Rae, later gently confronts Colin with the decision to face the nightmares of his past, and help prevent more children from suffering as he did.
